What is the Law of Assumption and How Is It Different from the Law of Attraction?

“Dare to believe in the reality of your assumption
and watch the world play its part
relative to its fulfillment.”
~ Neville Goddard

Something tells me you’ve already heard about the Law of Attraction… A lot. But what about this mysterious “new” concept that’s been discussed online more and more frequently in the past few years, called the Law of Assumption?

In this blog post, I will tell you about the Law of Assumption (I call it LOS for short), which is one of the most powerful tools for consciously creating your reality, and we will investigate it is much more effective and powerful than the good old Law of Attraction that most believe in.

What is the Law of Assumption?

Essentially, LOS states that you can turn your desire into a physical manifestation if you ASSUME THE FEELING of the “state of the wish fulfilled.” In other words, whatever you assume to be true will become your reality. The author of this concept is Neville Goddard, a famous metaphysical author, speaker, and teacher who lived in the 20th century.

Neville Goddard taught that we all see the world through the lens of our unique perspectives, beliefs, and assumptions. So, there is no such thing as “absolute reality.” Each individual creates their OWN reality by choosing what they focus on.

Applying the same rationale to manifesting, Neville says that you can manifest any desire if you change your beliefs around it and assume the feeling of having already manifested it. That is why LOS is sometimes also known as “living in the end.”

Law of Assumption vs. Law of Attraction

While both these laws are intended to help you create your own reality, they are still quite different.

Vibration vs. Awareness

The Law of Attraction is focused on changing your vibration to bring about a manifestation. It teaches that each person is essentially an energy magnet attracting and repelling things according to the frequency it is vibrating at. Meanwhile, the Law of Assumption talks about shifting your awareness or the point of focus in order to manifest (and shifting your awareness is much easier than trying to change your vibration every second).

Thought vs. The Feeling of the Wish Fulfilled

Another difference is that the law of attraction perpetuates the belief that thoughts are at the core of all manifestations. Positive thoughts attract positive experiences into your life, whereas thinking negative thoughts will lead you to not-so-awesome results. While there is a lot of truth to that and it will become apparent when you start using positive affirmations on a regular basis, the primary focus of LOS is not so much the thoughts but rather on acquiring the FEELING of the reality you want to manifest.

Mood vs. The Imaginal Act

The LOA teaches that since you only attract according to your vibration, maintaining a high vibration or a good mood constantly is a must in order for you to manifest something. And that makes it quite challenging for a lot of people to maintain, because as we all know, sometimes… shit just happens. And we are mere mortals after all. So this “toxic positivity” doesn’t exactly help when you’re feeling like absolute crap and are having to essentially pretend like you are happy as can be.

Great news is that LOS requires no such effort from you.  In fact, the law teaches that once you have planted a seed of your desire in your subconscious via an “imaginal act,” you have done your work (can I get a “Hallelujah?” ;)).

The Mystery of Free Will

Another important difference is that The Law of Attraction severely limits you by saying that you cannot influence other people because they all have free will.

On the contrary, the Law of Assumption gives you all-encompassing powers by telling you that YOU are the God of your reality, so any other person has no choice but to conform to your assumption.

Personally, I don’t quite agree with this concept, and I think it’s a little bit more complicated than that. I believe that there are infinite potential realities that exist (since creation is already finished) and that we have access to every single second. So we are aligning OURSELVES to a reality (or a series of realities) where someone else is a different version (one that we are “manifesting”).

I also believe that we have certain soul lessons that we have chosen to experience for any given lifetime, so even IF we are technically “the god of our reality,” we can’t simply avoid all the lessons that were set up (by our higher-self or “God” or who knows what ;)) for our own soul evolution. But I’ll talk more in-depth about this in my future blog posts.

To sum up, between LOA & LOS, the Law of Assumption is a clear winner owing to its ease of use and the absolute power it instills in you to decide your own reality. In other words, it is definitely the main tool you need to in your arsenal to create the best life for yourself and explore how truly empowered you are!

Keep calm and manifest! 🙂
