How to Use the State Akin to Sleep (SATS) in the Law of Assumption?

Have you heard other people manifesting their desires through the SATS technique, and now you, too, are curious about what it is and how it really works?

In this blog post, we are going to dive deeper into this awesome technique and how you can use it on a regular basis to manifest anything you wish.

What is SATS?

SATS or State Akin to Sleep is a manifestation technique introduced by Neville Goddard back in the 1940s. This technique includes intentionally lowering the frequency of your brain waves as you are about to fall asleep and then focusing on a particular thought or an imaginary scene in order to manifest it.

Why is SATS So Effective?

Neville Goddard’s SATS technique works like a charm for everyone who uses it diligently with faith and lots of consistency.
Now, one might wonder what makes this particular technique so effective. The answer is pretty simple and makes perfect sense even to those who need to have a logical explanation in order to believe that it works.

Our brain, throughout the day, in the awake state, operates at beta waves (more info on brainwaves). At this brain frequency, our conscious mind is in control and any attempt at reprogramming the subconscious is mostly pointless unless you use constant repetition as you do when affirming. But you would have to keep affirming literally thousands of times in order for your subconscious mind to integrate your new belief system (by the way, an amazing alternative is using self-concept affirmation audios while you sleep!

Meanwhile, during the SATS technique we lower our brain frequency and get into a drowsy, an almost sleep-like state. These lower brain waves are called alpha and theta (this is the one that’s used during hypnosis when our mind is at its most suggestible state, so, essentially, you are using self-hypnosis–during SATS). When our brain reaches these frequencies, the monkey chatter shuts down and so does the conscious mind (at last!). This, in turn, provides us a direct route to the subconscious.
So when we focus on a particular desire while maintaining this drowsy state, that thought or visualization gets firmly implanted in the subconscious mind. After a few days of repetition, this thought becomes a firm belief and–as a result–starts externalizing itself into our 3D reality. This is what we call a manifestation!

How to Get Into the State Akin to Sleep (SATS)?

Here is a quick step-by-step process for fully immersing your consciousness into SATS:

~ Get very clear about what exactly it is that you want to manifest (not what you don’t want!).
*It’s a good practice to focus on manifesting one desire at a time, especially when you are a total beginner at this.*

~ At night before going to sleep, try lying down in an unusual position in your bed.
Lying down in an unusual position is important so that you don’t fall asleep right away before completing the visualization. (If you have a hard time falling asleep anyway, you most likely don’t have to worry about this.)

~ Now fully relax your mind and body. A little breathing countdown or any quick meditation would do the trick.

~ The moment you feel like your awareness is starting to drift away, deliberately bring a thought or a short imaginal scene (few seconds to a couple of minutes) that implies the fulfillment of your desire.

~ Immerse ALL your senses in the feeling of the wish fulfilled.

Bonus tip: After you have successfully imagined and felt the state of the wish fulfilled, try repeating the same scenario in your mind again and again until you fall asleep.

Here’s how Neville himself describes the process of imagining correctly during SATS:

~ The first step in changing the future is Desire, that is, define your objective–know definitely what you want.
~ Second: construct an event which you believe you would encounter FOLLOWING the fulfillment of your desire – an event which implies fulfillment of your desire – something which will have the action of Self predominant.
~ The third step is to immobilize the physical body and induce a state akin to sleep. Then mentally feel yourself right into the proposed action, imagine all the while that you are actually performing the action HERE AND NOW. You must participate in the imaginary action, not merely stand back and look on, but FEEL that you are actually performing the action, so that the imaginary sensation is real to you. It is important always to remember that the proposed action must be one which FOLLOWS the fulfillment of your desire, one which implies fulfillment.

How Long Does it Take to Manifest a Desire with SATS?

While there is no specific time period that guarantees the fulfillment of your desires through SATS, doing it for at least a week or two is highly recommended! For some desires, even one good SATS session can be enough! The important thing is that your subconscious mind gets immersed into and impressed with the new reality of your choosing. Keep doing SATS (preferably every night) until your wish starts feeling very natural to you; sort of like a real memory.

Most importantly, pay attention to any signs and changes in your 3D reality in the next few days to weeks after doing this. If you do get confirmations, this is how you’ll know that you have successfully impressed your subconscious mind. If you don’t see any changes or signs though, don’t fret! Simply repeat this process all over again, possibly trying a different imaginal scene (although you don’t have to).

So there you have it! Don’t underestimate the effectiveness of the simple but amazing SATS technique that can literally change your life!
