Have you ever wished you could hit the undo button on life’s mess-ups? Like when you sent a text to the wrong person or blurted out something you immediately regretted (definitely happens to the best of us! ;)). But what if you actually could go back and redo what happened? This might sound like a sci-fi concept to many, but Neville Goddard, an incredible 20th-century manifestation teacher and mystic, believed we could do just that using the power of our imagination!
This concept is known as ‘revision’, and it can be a game-changer for anyone willing to master it.
Let’s break it down.
The Real Deal Behind Revision: It’s More Than Just a Mind Game
As you probably already know, in the world of personal development, techniques like visualization and affirmations are pretty mainstream. However, there’s something that sets Neville Goddard’s concept of revision apart. It’s more than just an imaginative or psychological exercise. It’s a spiritual tool, one that enables us to tap into deeper layers of consciousness and reshape our personal reality.
The Mechanics of Revision According to Neville
So, what is revision, really? Neville taught that revision is not just about changing your memories or your perception of past events. Instead, it’s a spiritual process of changing the very nature of past events. In this view, the past, present, and future are not separate; they all exist simultaneously, and we can influence any event from any time. Neville argued that our imagination is the creative force that shapes reality, and through the use of our imagination in the act of revision, we have the power to actually alter our past, and consequently, our present and future.
Imagine it like editing a movie of your life. You go back, snip out the unwanted scenes, and replace them with better ones – the way you wished they’d happened. In your mind’s eye, you’re the director, scriptwriter, and the lead actor of your life’s blockbuster.
How To Use Revision:
Step 1: Identify the Scene: Before you can edit anything, you need to identify what needs editing. Think about an event or circumstance you regret or wish could be different. It could be an argument, a missed opportunity, a “failure” – anything you’d like to change.
Step 2: “Rewrite” the Script: Close your eyes and create a mental movie of how you wished the event had unfolded instead. In this revised version, everyone says and does exactly what you’d wanted them to. Remember, there’s no limit to your script – you’re in complete control!
Step 3: Immerse Yourself: Don’t just think about the revised version; try to LIVE it. Feel the emotions that come with the new outcomes and see what’s happening around you. Focus on all of your senses to get the fullest picture. For example, If you’ve revised an argument into a pleasant conversation, feel the warmth and understanding that would have come with it.
The more REAL it feels to you, the better. The goal here isn’t just to think of a new scene but to believe in it so deeply that your mind accepts it as reality (by the way, our brain literally can’t tell the difference between reality and imagination, so it’s as if you are actually creating a new memory with this process). Your feelings are the secret ingredient that brings your mental pictures to life.
An Everyday Example of Revision
To better understand this, let’s consider an example. Imagine you had a difficult conversation with a friend. There was anger, hurt feelings, words you wish you hadn’t said. According to Neville’s teachings, you can revise this situation.
Here’s how:
In a quiet and comfortable space, close your eyes and relax your mind. Replay the situation in your mind but this time, change the course of the conversation. Picture you and your friend talking calmly and kindly, resolving the issue with love and mutual respect. Feel the relief and happiness that comes with this peaceful resolution.
Again, this mental act of revising isn’t just about changing your perspective of what happened. It’s about actually changing what happened. In Neville’s view, by doing this, you’re not just making yourself feel better; you’re effectively transforming the energy of the past event. This transformation can then ripple through to your current reality, healing old wounds and fostering more harmonious relationships.
Revision: A Path to Spiritual Growth
Neville also saw revision not just as a technique for manifesting desired outcomes, but as a pathway to spiritual growth. He believed that by engaging in the act of revision, we become active participants in the divine process of creation. It’s a way of aligning ourselves with a higher consciousness, shaping our personal reality in line with our highest good.
In essence, revision is a means of expressing unconditional love and forgiveness – towards ourselves and others. It’s about elevating our consciousness to a state where we realize that we are not victims of the past, but the creators of our reality. By understanding and applying the concept of revision, we have the power not only to change our past but also to transform our present and future, ultimately leading to a more harmonious and fulfilling life.
In fact, Neville suggested that we take time at the end of every day to revise anything that didn’t go well earlier that day and that could be a life-changing practice! So, go ahead, give revision a try. And who knows? You might just rewrite your entire world!
